Most personas are made up. Your real audience is already in your own data.

With what you already have: your customer base, your analytics, your sales conversations. Who actually bought, where they came from and what they asked before they decided.
They are fun to present and rarely change a decision. What does help: knowing that a quarter of your revenue comes from one segment you are not currently targeting. That is a choice, not a character sketch.
Ten twenty-minute conversations usually yield more than a survey of three hundred people. You hear the wording you can use in your and ads.
